Lying in bed with random thoughts milling through my mind, I was suddenly struck with the similarity between the internet and our human bodies.
In a very simplified way, this is how I see the similarities.
Our body consists of this huge network of intricate organs, networks as in the nervous system and strings as in our blood flow. The internet is set up in the same way.
For every action any part of the body makes, data is sent to the brain in a super split second, the data is then examined and sent to the requested destination, equally as fast, for the action to be initiated. If any of the data or signals are corrupt then this could result in a message being delivered to the wrong destination or the message could be garbled, as would happen when you have had too much to drink. The Internet as a whole operates in an almost identical fashion.
Our body is susceptible to viruses which can damage the immune system and in very serious cases can cause the body to completely shut down and cease to function. The same thing happens when a computer has a virus.
The body has a backbone to support the bodies structure, so does the internet. The human body has DNA for identity and the internet has DNS.
How cool is that?
