In the garden today - New Year
Well, we have reached another New Year and with it comes all the looking back on the past
year and all the new resolutions we are supposed to be making for the year ahead. This year
I choose to bring fresh and new ideas into my life, to try and expand my horizons, to expand
them so much that my brain hurts.I also choose to try and live healthily so that I won't
have to face huge medical bills (or any medical bills for that matter) and to savour every
single moment I have with my family, my friends, my animals and nature in general. I don't
want to waste any time on negative things as I do not wish to waste one second of this brief
time called life.
New Year reminds me of Spring, the renewal of the life cycle, where new growth appears after
it seemed that the old dry sticks were dead. Now emerald green shoots can be seen sprouting,
whilst othe plants push their way through the heavy soil to reach the lifegivimg sun, all of
them laying healthy foundations for the year ahead and the blossoming period.
So much to do in the garden as it is Summer here in the Cape, most of the time spent mulching
so that the plants don't dry out too much in our hot, dry weather. Time to sow some bright
Nasturtiums, they are such bright and happy plants, as well as providing edible flowers for
summer salads. Must also sow some vegetable and herb seeds now some Beans,Carrots and
Tomatoes together with some Basil, Italian Flat leaf Parsley, Lettuce, Chives and Dill.
This should keep me busy and out of mischief for a while.
My long Wishlist which will take quite some time to come true:
To have a huge garden party.
To get some Wellies for working in the garden.
To raise some of the beds.
To replace the ancient irrigation system.
To replace the wooden shutters on the patio with aluminium and glass windows.
To be able to manage my time between inside and outside a bit better.
