87 views Yes it’s that time of year again…
Where all things dark and sinister creep into the film world. Yes it’s Halloween month.
Jay and Dave decided to do a fun little round up of four DVD’s just released for those spooky nights in. With all the horror flicks out there these days it’s hard to find something without excessive gore or shock, and just find a good old fright night flick.
We decided to mix things up and give you a varied taste of something like “Last House on the Left” with a huge “R”-rating for big horror fans with strong stomachs.
It’s about a young girl on a weekend away with her family who runs into trouble with her friend and a group of escaped convicts! Be warned this one is not for the feint hearted.
After that something lighter was in order. “The Uninvited”, a classic little gem of a well executed eerie supernatural scary movie, a remake of the Japanese film :”A Tale of Two Sisters”, involving two young sisters away at their house on the lake with dad and his new girlfriend, who turns out to be a little more than they bargained for.
Next up was the straight to DVD “Horsemen” starring Dennis Quaid. This is a psychological thriller/horror about a group of killers basing their murderous acts on the four horsemen of the apocalypse. This film is ok, not brilliant, but also not totally lame. Dennis does a good job as a broken down cop again! But it’s good to see him out and about. This film will also be for the older Halloween fans who enjoy a good detective plot.
Finally our favourite, “Drag me to Hell”! This was all out fun, more a comedy horror than all out gore fest. Don’t get me wrong, this film is full of disgusting laugh out loud moments and some good frights. Sam Raimi (Spiderman, Evil Dead) directs this pic and does an awesome job at that. The film revolves around a loan officer ordered to evict an old woman from her home. She finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, which turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point…sheer brilliance, old school horror at its best!
