Sea Point: to many this suburb by the sea represents the pinnacle of relaxed and quiet living, but for many Sea Point residents the quiet ideal has been polluted by noise. The constant hooting by taxis on the main road has made 2800 residents so desperate that they signed a petition and so managed to get help from the City of Cape Town to instate a law against this hooting.
We speak to Councillor JP Smith (Chairperson of the Good Hope sub-council and safety and security portfolio committee) to find out more.

Thank goodness, now we can have peace at last with the hooting. We don't have to send them back redo their learners license, as it is specified that a hooter can only be used in emergency,
It is very interesting how some taxis think that they can sell you a ride to a place you don't want to go to by hooting at you excessively, beats me.
Fact: No matter how many times you hoot at me and shout "Wynberg" , if I am not on my way to "Wynberg",I will not need nor want to take a taxi there.
seems like a waste of time to me... time that could better be spent doing something worthwhile...
That said, i dont think the hooting gets them more business at all, people see them they are very visible and in the end the commuter chooses which van or bus to get into. It's all so ridiculous !
