1,008 views South African president, Thabo Mbeki, addresses the nation on Africa Day, highlighting the outbreak of xenophobia and criminal activity around South Africa as "disgraceful". Let us hope that next year's Africa Day is a more joyous time than today.
It's a good start, but I would have wished he had put more emotion into his speech. I know he's always seen himself as an "intellectual" president, but what we need is leaders who are not afraid to pounce their fists on a table and shout "No NO NO!! This is not how we treat others". It would have been even more effective had he gone to the affected areas.
