Beatrice Arthur died on 25 April 2009 and will always be remembered as a wonderful actress, especially for her popular parts in Maude and The Golden Girls (as Dorothy Zbornak). Thank you for Bea-ing a friend, Bea. We will miss you and remember you always.

Have your say

I have always been a fan of Bea Arthur. I remember when I was six years old my mother and I would be watching tv and the Shoppers Drugmart commercials came on tv with bea arthur. my mother told me "that's Maude!!" and I thought she meant "mud" but anyways I started watching Golden girls as is aired in its original episodes up until i had just turned 12 by the time I was eleven I was obsessed with watching the show it was not until I was 18 when I first watched a rerun of Maude on superstation or such no it was womyns channel but anyways i loved it and would watch it every day when i had digital cable anyhow I own all the episodes of golden girls and season one of maude and i have the movies lovers and other strangers and mame and the dvd biography of the golden girls and the bea arthur cd live on broadway from 2002 and on cassette bea arthur as yente the matchmaker from fiddler on the roof I even went out for purim twice as bea arthur and put baby powder in my hair and wore black slouch boots to make myself taller as I am average heigth 5 5 and a half I can do some really incredible imitations of her as I have seen her shows so many times if the rest of maude does come out on dvd i will buy it however maybe not immediately but I would like for it to be released on dvd eventually like in the winter time or so it would be a shame for people to not get to see the rest of the episodes it is so odd that the two remaining golden girls are blanche and rose as blanche is the youngest and rose the eldest I hope that Rue McClanahan and Betty White both live for a long time coming maybe one day I will get to meet Betty White and she will tell me those St Olaf stories or I can meet Rue and imitate what she told them when their heads were frozen in the dream of Rose's I also have Blanche's book but still have to get around to reading it
