The public broadcaster won't put this on air. We will. Watch the uncut version of the Special Assignment documentary on political satire.

ok drakonis. have a lovely day
Fair enough, Zuma deserves his shot at proving himself. But getting defensive over satire (even if it is someone else getting defensive on him behalf) is not winning him any points with the people who are convinced he'll drop the ball at some point.
Satire is not about hate, it is about criticism. If someone does not have the ability or right to openly criticise and make fun of the policies and decisions made by those in power as well as the errors they have committed in the public eye then we are not living in a democracy.
Refusing to allow satirical elements in public reflects badly on the people concerned and creates the impression that the satire may have a big chunk of truth in it. If Julius Malema had laughed off the Nando's advert or if the SABC had simply shown this documentary in the first place there would have likely been very little response to either.
A few South Africans would have got a laugh and a calm response to being poked fun at would have won Malema/President Zuma a few grudging admirers among their critics who were expecting a flare-up of sorts.
Essentially what your response comes across as saying is that only the supporters who voted for the current President matter. It may not matter to the people who voted for him but that is no reason to prevent those who think it matters to themselves from viewing it.
Unfortunately i don't see it that way. I see man who has been persecuted and some of the people who were part of the persecution continues to do so in the name of freedom of speech or freedom of expression. This man is only a few days in the presidency why do he be left alone to govern. South Africa is said to be a Christian country and Christ taught forgiveness why cant Zapiro and everybody who hates this man just forgive him? I might have expressed myself incorrectly that is because I am not an English man. What i was saying is that the majority of the people who voted for Zuma are not interested in what seems to be a concern to a lot of you so there is no need for the SABC to show that video.
Have you actually read the comment you wrote? "Should not be allowed"? You may be comfortable with the government (and others) telling you how to think and act and essentially babysitting you as you amble obliviously through life but some people can do without others deciding how they think.
Respect is earned and is not a right and if the president of this or any country makes a twit of himself in any way then he has marked himself for ridicule, satire and anything else that humorists can poke at him.
If there is no truth in the documentary then there should be no problem with it being viewed. It does not come down to disrespect or embarrassment, the SABC should have grown a pair and just run the documentary. THEY created the hype by not letting this be seen.
Excellent job done by the Mail & Guardian as per usual! Wonder what else never makes it past the SABC's censoring department.
The SABC did the right thing. we cannot allow a situation where our president is disrespected in the name of freedom of expression or freedom of speech. All similar video aimed at embarrassing our president should not be allowed.
i think the SABC should have shown this video, because if they dont the public will start to have doubts about their relaibility
I agree with you. This is not the US. President Zuma has been voted by the majority of voters over 10 millioin. he deserve to be respected and given a chance to prove himself. The judge in his rape trial said he found that he had consensual sex and he further said that every reasonable person would have cleaned himself as a precautionary measure. What Zapiro is supposed to do is to reflect that or if he cant, go to his home and pray and leave our president alone.
bush was constantly featured on shows like saturday night live and john stewart, and even the tonight show with jay leno, in the USA. if a first world country can laugh at the president they voted in, so can little south africa.
