When I come home after the night shift, I have the whole procedure of unlocking house doors, from sticking keys all around the door, making sounds, and scratching the doors; after a whole hard day at work, I go nuts over simply unlocking doors. Well, we all know that it’s not only me. Instead, this is a common problem for everyone.
Another potential risk that may cause me to get nervous and lose control and feeling in my hands is that someone could come behind my back and steal my belongings or, even worse, get into my house before me. Simply put, I at least get the feeling that someone is chasing me when I unlock my door. Don’t judge me; I know many feel this way; my wife is one of them.
I tried using a small EDC light for the keychain, but eventually, I stopped using it as I also needed to search for and hold both light and keys. My second thought was installing a light above the door, but in my case, I don’t have a closed power line to install the light. Then, searching the web, I came across a ring light that can be simply installed on the door keyhole. The product is called Halo Light + Light, and I am going to review it so you can also see it as your problem solver.
What we like
- Easy magnetic installation
- Motion detection simplifies unlocking, boosts security
- Rechargeable design eliminates battery hassle
- Versatile for video calls, finding things in the dark, etc.
- Two light modes (motion sensor and flashlight)
THINGS TO CONSIDER
- May not be ideal for doors fully exposed to weather
- Check doorknob and keyhole size for compatibility
- Battery life is usage-dependent
What is Halo Life + Light?
Well, it is a simple small ring LED light with a built-in motion sensor that fits nicely over your door keyhole or doorknob; it’s compact but still provides enough light, even more than you need, to safely and successfully unlock your door. The LED ring light that attaches to your door encircles the doorknob. This means no more fumbling with keys in the dark – that ring of light makes unlocking your door a breeze.
What Makes Halo Life Light Good Security and Burglary Deterrent?
You know those scary home security stats? It turns out most break-ins happen right at the front and back doors – sometimes, they walk right in!
According to the ADT, the most common points of breakage into homes are from the front door, with 34% of burglars just walking right in and 22% coming through the back door.
I thought the basement and garage doors were easier choices for thieves. Just 9% chose the garage door, and 4% chose the basement as an entry point.
Features of The Halo Life + Light
But what makes this product really special? Is it just another LED light?
Although co-pact, the Halo Life Light seems to have all you might need or plan to use.
The first that I noticed and found it eally useful is the built-in motion sensor, which has really good detection when I am present or in front of the door. The light wouldn’t be so useful if they did not put a motion sensor. The second thing I like about this product is also that it’s rechargeable.
Now you are thinking, how the hell am I gonna recharge the light that I installed on the outside door lock or knob.
Well, don’t worry; here we come to the next thing that I like about Halo Life Light. It has a base plate that is a magnet, and on the other side, it has an adhesive, which parts you stick on your doot or another place you find useful and usable. So you can detach the light in order to recharge it and then simply put it back. Well, if you are wondering about battery life, I wonder too, as I did not find anywhere how long it can last on a single chat, and I don’t know how I would determine battery life.
When Halo detects movement, it is within a maximum range of 10-15 feet, and it will stay ON for approximately 30 seconds.
But this makes it last a long period as, at least for me. The effect on battery life will also affect how often you come to your door and activate your light.
Are There Any Other Uses of The Halo Life Light?
Well yes. Although it’s great as a security light at your door, it’s still an LED light that you find used all around your house, vehicle, and any other place where you might need light. Use it to light up hallways and dark stairwells easily, or use it as temporary hands-free lighting. Also, because it has a built-in magnet, you can attach it to metal surfaces at places you may work, like under the hood or an electrical panel finding breaker.
And, of course, in those places where you don’t have metal surfaces, you can then use a magnetic adhesive ring that comes with the light. But even if you get yourself one light, you can detach from the door as I do and go do the thing where I need the light.
How to Install and Use Halo Life Light?
Honestly, I was surprised by how simple this is. You basically unbox the light and grab the magnetic ring (it has a sticker on one side).
Next, head to the door where you want the light. You can usually choose either the doorknob or the keyhole. Try to center the adhesive over the keyhole or knob as best as you can – it makes lining up the light easier!
Peel off the backing from the adhesive and stick the magnetic ring down carefully. Take your time! You don’t want to have to reposition it and risk weakening the adhesive.
Finally, pop the light itself onto the magnetic ring, and you’re done!
Installation Tips
- Be patient with the sticker: Rushing can damage the adhesive and make the light less secure.
- Clean the surface first: A quick wipe with rubbing alcohol around the keyhole or doorknob will help the sticker attach better, especially since these areas get touched a lot.
- Exposure to Weather Elements: Before the installation, consider how much the door is exposed to the weather. The Halo Life Light is moisture resistant but its not waterproof. If your doors don’t have anything about protection from the direct weather elements, most primarily the rain, then the light might not survive long. If your door is protected, then I think that you should not have a problem. This is a friendly reminder.
This little Halo Life Light is surprisingly versatile! I mentioned how great it is at the door, but honestly, it comes in handy for all sorts of things: video calls, makeup touch-ups, even finding stuff in the dark.
Oh, and here’s something cool: it actually has two light modes! There’s a little button on the left side near the charging port. The first mode is the motion sensor, which you already know about. But the second mode turns it into a regular flashlight – super useful if you need more constant light.
Is There a Possibility That Light Won’t Fit on the Door?
Of course, that also came through mine when I looked at the products. The Halo light is designed to fit most
Door handles are less than 2-3/4″ inside diameter and fit most USA-made residential locksets. So if your door has a different size of type of lock or knob, then this Halo Life Light won’t fit. So make sure you check your door before purchasing, it’s a simple thing to do.
So, What’s My Verdict on the Halo Life + Light?
Honestly, it does exactly what it promises, and that’s a big deal! For the price, I’m impressed. Sure, a future version with even longer battery life or extra features would be awesome, but this gets the job done.
It’s clear they put thought into how this would actually be used. If you’ve ever struggled with your keys in the dark, this is absolutely worth checking out. It might just make your life a little easier, and that’s always a win!
