When I got my first car, I was so happy. It had black paint, a great motor, incredible horsepower (HP). But unfortunately, when I looked closer at the body paint, there were some weird smudges on it, which irritated the hell out of me.
While searching the internet about these weird smudges, I came across something that could help me fix it.
Before I tell you my secret of how I solved swirl marks, let me first explain what swirl marks are.
What Are Swirl Marks?
Swirl marks are super fine scratches caused when you wipe your dusty car with a dry towel. When you view it under a microscope, you’ll see that it’s just a bunch of tiny scratches.
A lot of car owners face this problem. If you’ve ever tried to remove it with your finger, you’ll know that you can’t even feel the swirl marks let alone remove them.
What Causes Swirl Marks?
Improper cleaning of your painted surfaces causes swirl marks. This can be anything such as:
- Using automatic car washes.
- Improper car washing.
- Wiping down a dusty or dirty car with a dry towel.
- If you use a car cover when either the vehicle or cover is not clean.
Over a more extended period, these micro scratches multiply into one big swirl mark. The swirl marks are usually present on the hood or the trunk of the car.
Note: Swirl marks are more visible on some cars than others. This is because of the color of your vehicle: the darker the color, the more it’s visible.
In my experience, black paint is the worst when it comes to swirl marks.

How to Get Rid of Swirl Marks on the Car
Polishing the paint can be hard work when you don’t have the proper machine to do it.
Another thing to consider is that you need to pay a few hundred dollars to have one machine, not to mention hiring a professional.
Buying a swirl mark remover in a liquid state is, in my opinion, the best choice to go with. It’s a cheap investment, so you don’t need to hire a professional. The product that we recommend is Shine Armor Swirl Marks Remover.

Step by Step Guide to Polishing Your Car by Hand
Step 1
Before you begin, you must wash your vehicle first before polishing. You don’t want dirt and grime getting stuck in the applicator pad because this will only cause more scratches on top of what has already been there.
Start by washing off all visible dirt with soap-filled buckets two times over – one for shampooing, so they rinse each time thoroughly. Then use hot water when rinsing out each panel afterward, followed immediately by another bucket containing clean cold water.
Step 2
Before polishing, it is essential to remove any paint contaminants that are on the surface. If you feel that the surface is rough, remove these substances before your polish treatment plan.
Step 3
When your car is clean and dry, grab a new microfiber towel. Apply the Shine Armor Remover and start wiping with light pressure going in circular motions. When you finish buffing away any residue left behind, wipe again for that beautiful shine without swirls.
