Electric toothbrushes have significantly transformed oral care, providing benefits beyond what manual brushing offers. In the diverse market of dental hygiene products, Mode presents itself as an interesting option. In this review we will explore the unique attributes of Mode, a wireless charging electric toothbrush, examining how its design and functionality might fit into the modern dental care routine.
Our Verdict
Overall, Mode stands out as a top choice for anyone seeking a high-quality electric toothbrush. Its impressive 38,000 vibrations per minute surpass many competitors, and its wireless charging feature is a convenient innovation. With a robust build, IPX7 rating, and a simple yet effective single mode, Mode is an excellent investment for your dental health.
What Is M0de?
Pros
- Money back guarantee
- Ease of use thanks to the magnetic dock charger
- The brush head is able to reach and clean the farthest teeth
- Premium quality and design
- Cheaper than most of the premium brands
Cons
- You can only use their replacement brush heads
- You can’t turn off the nightlight on the dock
Mode, or m0de as it’s also known, is an electric toothbrush, as mentioned in the title. It’s a new brand that offers just one type of toothbrush and replacement brushes. It claims to be the first toothbrush to charge without wires. The parent company of Mode is Compound Brands, which also produces Auraglow, a teeth whitening kit.
The toothbrush generates 38,000 vibrations per minute, which is significantly more than some of its direct competitors like Sonicare, which has 31,000, and Oral-B with 48,800. The brush is IPX7 rated, meaning you can safely wash it, and the dock is IPX4 rated, indicating it is splash-proof.
There is only one mode available when turning it on, and that’s perfectly fine with me. Who needs multiple modes for brushing teeth? When you turn it on, it runs for 2 minutes.
What Comes in the Box
There is not much that comes in the box but at least the packaging is well designed. The box contains:
- Toothbrush
- Charging dock
- Manual
Design
If you’re familiar with MKBHD on YouTube, you’ll know his motto: “matte black everything,” and the Mode toothbrush embodies this perfectly. The entire toothbrush, including the bristles and charger, is matte black, with the only exception being the small, somewhat white logo near the bottom of the device.
The Mode toothbrush both looks and feels great in your hands. The quality and finish of the metal, plastic, and rubber are excellent. The handle’s bottom half is made of aluminum, while the top half is a combination of rubber and plastic. The on/off button is located on the top half of the handle, and above that is a white LED charging indicator.
As you might guess, the charging dock is also entirely black. It serves as both a dock and a wall plug in one. When they said it’s the first toothbrush to charge without wires, they were referring to this design. The dock, wire-free, holds the toothbrush in place with magnets. You can position the toothbrush either vertically or horizontally, depending on your space requirements. This feature is handy if you need to free up the bottom outlet; you can place the toothbrush horizontally to plug something else beneath it.
Performance
The Mode electric toothbrush looks and feels similar to other premium electric toothbrushes. Like any new toothbrush, it may be a little uncomfortable at first because the bristles haven’t yet softened. However, after 2-3 uses, you’ll get accustomed to it, and the bristles will have softened somewhat.
I usually prefer round brush heads, as they can reach the furthest areas and behind the teeth without causing discomfort. On the other hand, Mode uses a more traditional oval-shaped head. Initially, I thought this would be problematic, but to my surprise, it wasn’t much different from my usual oval brush head. I was able to reach every corner of my mouth easily, allowing for thorough cleaning of my teeth.
The motor that powers the vibrations is quiet enough to not bother you while brushing.
Battery and Charging
The charging base for the toothbrush is round and plugs directly into a power socket without any cables. It features a circular indent that snugly holds the toothbrush, relying on magnets to hold it in place.
Mode advertises that the toothbrush’s battery can last up to 30 days on a single charge. Although most users might dock the toothbrush after each use, making this feature less critical, it’s still a nice detail to have.
Additionally, the charger includes a built-in light that activates in low-light conditions. This is convenient at night if you don’t want to turn on your main light, as it illuminates the dock, helping you locate it. While this feature is aesthetically pleasing, it’s worth questioning who brushes their teeth in complete darkness. There is no dedicated button to turn off this nightlight completely. The only way to do so is by unplugging the charger, but that defeats its purpose.
The main inconvenience of this charger could be its requirement for a nearby power outlet. If the outlet is not close to where you brush, moving the toothbrush to and from the charger, particularly in the morning when you’re still groggy, might be a hassle.
Pricing
This is the part everyone wants to know. The best place to purchase Mode toothbrush would be from their official website.
The Mode toothbrush costs $148. If you’re interested in buying multiple modes youre in luck because they offer bulk savings. There is a buy one, get one 30% off option which costs $251.60. And if that’s not enough you can buy two and get one 80% off which costs $325.60.
Each option comes with free shipping. Unfortunately for the international buyers, Mode does not sell outside of the US at the moment.
There is 1 year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee.
They say it takes them 1-2 days to ship the order and it takes 3-5 business days to arrive.
Who Is This For?
If you’re still unsure whether this is right for you, then consider some of the features and benefits you can enjoy with the Mode toothbrush.
Firstly, its space-efficient design is notable. The toothbrush’s magnetic charger attaches directly to your power outlet, cutting down on wire clutter and saving precious space on your counter or in a drawer.
Price-wise, Mode is a cost-effective choice among high-end toothbrushes. While it may not have the long-standing dentist approval that some established brands boast, it offers good value for its price.
Lastly, its design is both simple and functional. Mode features a single setting with consistent intensity, enhanced by convenient 30-second brushing pulses and a brush head optimally sized to reach your back teeth easily.
